10" x 9" Star Steam Engine
The Star Drilling Machine Company in Akron Ohio made steam engines from the late 1880s to the end of the 1930s. Their 1920 catalog lists 13 different sizes of steam engines from 5" x 5" up to 12" x 11" for their cable rigs.
This engine was used on their model 27 drilling rig capable of drilling 2600 ft. The engine turns over fine and can be run on 75 PSI from a heavy duty air compressor. I removed the reversing lever to weld a crack. This needs to be put back on. My father worked at the Star Drilling Machine Company from 1926 to 1952 when the Akron plant closed.
I now live about 250 miles from our farm in Ohio and can't double check to see if anything is missing on the engine, so it is sold as is. The engine may be seen or picked up in Carrollton Ohio.
